Blame Minority For Parliament Fight; They're Violent! - Ursula Owusu

Ablekuma West MP and Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has heaped the boxing incident that occurred in Parliament on Monday, December 20, on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority.

According to her, although what happened in Parliament is disgraceful, to call a spade a spade, the Minority are the ones responsible for such shameful act and must be called out.

She noted that the brawl was ignited by the Minority, not the Majority, so asked Ghanaians not to lump them together when slamming the MPs over their unwholesome behaviour in the House.

"Frankly, this is my third time in Parliament and I haven't seen nothing like this before. It's very shameful! Those doing that are the NDC people who think they should use violence in everything they do. We should call them out and let the whole world know that it's not everybody who is like that. What happened was ignited by them," she told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo'.

Explaining what really transpired in Parliament resulting in the fierce fight among the MPs, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the First Deputy Speaker was dutifully handing over to the Second Deputy Speaker to chair proceedings in the House when the Minority attempted to pounce on him which called for the Majority's response.

The Majority, she expounded, went to shield the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, popularly called ''Joe Wise'', from being attacked.

To her, the Majority has been very composed in Parliament, therefore the Minority are the ones to blame because they have consistently exhibited an aggressive character in the chamber.

"How do you say we won't allow the Second Deputy to take the chair? How do you say, by force, Joe Wise should chair the proceedings? How do you dictate that the Speaker you like should chair proceedings?'', she asked.

To what happened in Parliament, Hon. Owusu-Ekuful briefly exclaimed; ''It's a disgrace to us all!''
