Kwesi Nyantakyi Slams Negative Reportage From European Media On 2021 AFCON

Former first Vice-president of CAF, Kwesi Nyantakyi has lambasted the attempts by some Europe media houses to hijack the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

There were several reports from some top media outlets in Europe on the postponement and cancellation of the tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Arsenal legend, Ian Wright the Africa Cup of Nations is being ‘disrespected” by some negative media coverage.

Other top football personalities such as Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieria, Sebastian Haller of Ajax, Tony Baffour  and Cameroon FA President Samuel Eto’o called for respect for the biggest football tournament in Africa amid the reportage.

The former Ghana FA President in an interview on Onua FM indicated that CAF can successfully organize the tournament but attempts by some foreign media houses to hijack the tournament: " Africa is capable of organizing a successful Afcon but I was unhappy when Europe wanted to hijack the tournament"

The 2021 AFCON tournament kicks off on Sunday, January 9 with host Cameroon taking on Burkina Faso in the opening game of the tournament.

Ghana is housed in Group C of the tournament with Morocco, Gabon and Comoros.

The Black Stars play Morocco in their opening game of the tournament on Monday in Youande.
