Set Up A 'West African High Command' To Fight Islamic Insurgence - Nana Akomea Tells ECOWAS

Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has called the ECOWAS to set up a West Africa force against Islamic insurgence on the African continent.

Nana Akomea, speaking on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', was worried about the anarchy that goes on in some African countries like Guinea, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire among others.

Burkina Faso, on Monday, experienced a coup d'état when the country’s army led by Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba ousted the President, Roch Kaboré and dissolved the government and the national assembly as well as closed the borders.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in the aftermath of a military coup, has suspended Burkina Faso making it the third member nation to be punished for a military takeover in only 18 months.

To Nana Akomea, in order to end the insurgence, there is the need for ECOWAS to fight back, so suggested it established a military unit to deal with this problem.

" . . maybe this is the good time to set up a West African High Command which will be like a standing Army for West Africa," he told host Nana Yaw Kesseh.
