Ghana has received a total of 27,413,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccines as of February 07, out of which 12,005,970 are AstraZeneca, 8,788,850 are Johnson and Johnson, 1,229,620 are Moderna, 5,367,960 are Pfizer-BioNTech and 21,000, Sputnik-V vaccines.

A total of 11,835,359 doses of the vaccines received have been administered with 8,325,791 persons receiving at least one dose, 4,486,364 persons fully vaccinated and 67,104 persons receiving the first booster dose.

Doses currently available according to the statistics are 8,079,640, which include 1,098,700 of the AstraZeneca vaccines, 5,644,800 of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines, 1,336,140 of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines with no Moderna and Sputnik-V vaccines.

According to data on the Ghana Health Service (GHS) COVID-19 update page, a total of 1,426 COVID-19 deaths were recorded as of February 5 with five severe cases and two in critical condition.

Relatedly, the number of cases that were recorded were 157,917 with 527 active cases at the said time.

The Health Minister, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, expressed over a recent World Health Organisation (WHO) assessment, which lauded Ghana as one of the two countries that managed COVID 19 well, globally.

He said the success was due to effective tracing, testing, treatment and vaccination exercises.

Despite our success story, the pandemic had impacted our nation negatively, especially on our finances, which had led to the suspension of the Fiscal Responsibility Act (Act 2018), he said.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to WHO, is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

People infected with the virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment while some will become seriously ill and require medical attention.

Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, tiredness, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, headache, aches and pains, diarrhoea and rash on the skin.
