A Lot of Oil Companies In Ghana Owing Taxes In Excess Of 75 million – Boakye Agyarko Discloses

A former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, has disclosed how "a lot of oil companies" in Ghana are owing taxes over a hundred million.

"I know for a fact that a lot of oil companies operating in Ghana are owing taxes . . . some are owing 75m, 100 and over million . . . " he indicated.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview on Peace FM's 'The Platform' programme, on the back of controversies surrounding the E-levy, he cited Tullow Oil, saying, "when I was a Minister, I had a serious challenge with Tullow. They were always fighting the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) because they had not paid their taxes for 5 years".

According to him, "if we don't take the taxes from these oil companies, how can you take from the ordinary Ghanaian trying to make a living? This is where the resistance is coming from".
