Awaso Academy Retains Western North Indep. Day Inter-District Quiz Competition Cup

The annual third edition of the Western North Independence Day Inter-District JHS Quiz Competition, held for the nine (9) Municipal and District Assemblies, has been retained by the Awaso Academy in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality.
The competition aimed to commemorate the region's Independence Day celebrations through a quiz competition, as well as to foster unity and togetherness among the Western North Region's nine participating MDAs.

The 2022 champions defeated their closest rivals, Enchico Demonstration School from the Aowin Municipality, with 55 points to retain the title for the second time on Thursday 3rd March 2022 at Sefwi Bekwai.

The champions received a new HP laptop, a multipurpose printer, gold medals, a trophy, books, tablets for the contestants, certificates, and plagues, while the first runner-up Enchico Demonstration JHS School received a new laptop, tablets, books, silver medals, books, plagues, and certificates.

The third-placed school, EL College Limited, received a brand-new laptop, books, tablets, bronze medals, plagues, and certificates, while the fourth through ninth-placed schools received books, certificates, and plagues, respectively.
Speaking at the event, Nana Kwadwo Somiah II, the Chairman for the occasion and representing the Western North Regional House of Chiefs, praised the participants for their outstanding display of intellectual discipline throughout the competition and urged them to remain steadfast and focused on their academic endeavors in order to become better citizens of the society in the future.

He charged them to abstain from any nefarious acts that would jeopardize their bright aspirations of becoming useful to society at large by adhering to the instructions and guidelines given to them by both their parents and teachers.
Nana Somiah, a chief in the Anhwiaso Traditional Area, praised Kinross Gold Mines Limited, the event's headline sponsors, for their commitment to support and facilitate the event's successful implementation since its inception in 2020, and urged company management to put measures in place to adopt the program.

"We, the region's traditional leadership, will continue to support and make the ground very conducive for all manner of companies that will champion the course of the region, be it education, health, infrastructure, human development, and so on."
The event's chairman went on to say.

The Executive Chairman of the Organising and Planning Committee, HRH Obrmpong Hima Dekyi IXV, whose speech was read on his behalf, expressed delight at the successful organization of the quiz program despite challenges in raising funds from some corporate institutions in the region, and thanked Kinross Chirano Gold Mines Ltd for its support towards the success of the event.

Obrempong Hima Dekyi IXV, who is also the Paramount Chief of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Area in the Western Region, urged all stakeholders involved in the educational sector to implement measures that will seek to enhance and complement the government's existing programs.

Mr. Stephen Gyamprah, Community Relations Superintendent of Kinross Chirano Gold Mines Limited, the headline sponsors of the competition, stated that his company is committed to the educational well-being of the citizenry throughout the region, thus their decision to sponsor the quiz competition.

"Kinross Chirano Gold Mines, as education is one of our top priorities, we have no excuse to let this flagship event pass us by without our participation, and we are indeed proud to be the frontline sponsors since 2020, when the quiz competition was initiated in the region, and we wish to assure all that we will continue to support this worthy course.". He added.
He congratulated both participants and their teachers, as well as the basic education coordinators, on their hard work and dedication to making the event a success.

Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, Western North Regional Director of Education, thanked Kinross Chirano Gold Mines Ltd in his speech for its continuous support to education in the region and encouraged the company to continue as his office is ready to partner with any group or association that is ready to keep education in the region competitive and quality.

He mentioned infrastructure improvements, the provision of modern basic teaching and learning materials to schools, particularly at the rural base levels, as well as investing in and supporting teacher capacity development to enable them to complement emerging trends in the sector.

Mr. Owusu stressed that the quiz programme also in line with the GES's strategy to improve and promote the sector in order to make it look good and competitive at all levels, and he urged all relevant key stakeholders to help them.
