2022 World Cup Qualifiers: LINE-UPS: Ghana v Nigeria

One of Africa’s biggest football rivalries is about to be ignited in a few minutes time at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi as Ghana’s Black Stars will be battling it out against Nigeria’s Super Eagles

Apart from the bragging rights, the stakes are quite higher in this latest installment of the ‘Jollof Derby’ as a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is up for grabs for whoever prevails.

Matches of this magnitude are often won by the most determined team on the night with the form guide playing a less significant role.

Nigeria has the players but Ghana boast a richer history in this rivalry-one country has to give this evening in Kumasi.

Meanwhile, Nigeria coach Augustine Eguavoen has opted for his reliable and trusted squad from the Nations Cup.

Francis Uzoho has been picked ahead of Daniel Akpeyi.

With first choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye unavailable due to illness, Eguavoen settled for Uzoho ahead of the more experienced Akpeyi.

Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, Leon Balogun and Zaidu Sanusi will line up in defence.

Balogun was preferred to Kenneth Omeruo, who paired Troost-Ekong in central defence at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Innocent Bonke, who was a late replacement for the injured Wilfred Ndidi will play in midfield along with Joe Aribo and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen will lead the attack, while Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze will operate on the flanks.
