Adwoa Safo's Impersonation Claim Was a 'Bloody Lie'; Minority Must Retract Now! - Kweku Baako

Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako says the Minority in Parliament must retract a claim they made against the Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, that she had been impersonated in Parliament.

Impersonation Claim

Lawyer Adwoa Safo was accused of impersonation after a lady appeared in Parliament to join the NPP Majority to approve the 2022 budget during a vote on the budget.

The Minority was amazed that Adwoa Safo, who was at the time overseas, could suddenly appear in Parliament to cast her vote, hence, in their disbelief, said the woman they saw in Parliament was Adwoa's look-alike.

Although Lawyer Adwoa Safo defended herself stating categorically the lady they saw in her seat was her, the Minority was vehemently doubtful.

Minority Defends Adwoa Safo

Months after accusing Adwoa Safo of impersonation, the Minority has mounted a defence for her after she is referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament.

A fomer Kumbungu MP, Ras Mubarak petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, about the absence of the Dome/Kwabenya MP and three others.

The Speaker, after accepting the petition on Tuesday, referred the MPs to the Privileges Committee.

The petition read; “It has come to my notice through parliament’s Hansard, and newspaper and radio reports that some four Members of Parliament, namely Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, MP for Dome-Kwabenya; Hon. Henry Quartey, MP for Ayawaso Central; Hon. Ebenezer Kojo Kum, MP for Ahanta West; and Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin Central have all absented themselves from Parliament for more than fifteen sittings of a meeting of Parliament without the permission of Mr. Speaker in writing.

“In view of this reported breach of the constitutional provision, I respectfully petition your high office to direct for their conduct to be referred to the Privileges Committee for consideration and necessary action.”

But according to the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, it is unfair for Adwoa Safo to be dragged before the Privileges Committee.

In defending her, Hon. Muntaka, in an interview with JoyNews, revealed the main reason for her absence is that her children are at risk of being separated from their mother by the American Social Welfare Department.

“She’s talking about her children and if she’s not careful Social Welfare in America will seize these children. We cannot pretend to say that that’s not a serious thing. We can’t,” he said.

Retract Your Impersonation Claim

But Kweku Baako feels Lawyer Adwoa Safo has been exonerated by the Minority's defence.

''It appears there is a certain soft spot from the Minority side for Adwoa Safo. I don't understand it. This same lady was accused by the Minority that she has allowed herself to be impersonated. What is the status of that case?''

He stated emphatically that the impersonation claim was a falsehood stressing ''between me and you, it was a bloody lie. It was a fabrication of the highest order, on the Minority side...Conspicuously, they are silent on that allegation of impersonation. Yes, because it was a fabrication but I find it interesting that slowly but surely, progressively, they have disengaged from that path''.

He so sought for an immediate retraction and apology for her stressing ''impersonation in the Legislature is a huge crime for the impersonator and the one who is going along with the impersonation and now suddenly, it appears that it didn't happen because it didn't happen. But those who made a claim that it happened has a responsibility [now there is no proof], so, to retract to the good people of this country''.
