Sanitation: Operation To Enforce City Bye-laws Won't Be a Nine-day Wonder - Henry Quartey Assures

Over 3,000 taskforce are being deployed to enforce bye-laws on sanitation and discipline in the Greater Accra Region.

The 3,500-member City Response Team as part of their duties is to ensure that traders selling on roads and pavements are vacated.

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey speaking in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' said the first batch of 1,000 personnel who have undergone military training will start work on Tuesday, 19th April 2022.

"They're to strictly enforce the bye-laws . . . they have been trained to engage and to discharge their duties professionally; no Rambo-style . . . the fact that they have been given military training doesn't mean they are to use force or violence. They are to instill discipline," he stated.

Exercise Sustainability

Henry Quartey has however insisted that the exercise is not going to be a nine-day wonder.

"By the grace of God this exercise will be sustained; it won't be a nine-day wonder," he assured.

Abuse of Powers

Meanwhile, the Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament(MP) for Ayawaso Central has indicated that measures have been put in place to ensure the personnel won't abuse their powers.

"There will be strong monitoring and supervision to avoid abuse of powers. They have already been cautioned and anyone caught will be prosecuted," he added.
