Ghana To Host The 2023 World Book Capital

The literacy Promotion Manager of the Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC), Daniel Ofosu-Asamoah, has revealed that Accra has been named to host the 2023 UNESCO World Book Capital.

The designation is meant to promote the local book industry, libraries, books, reading, awareness of literacy, and a lively book culture as well as to promote tourism, and draw national and international attention to the literary heritage of the city and nation.

According to him, Ghana hosting the world book capital in 2023 will help people appreciate the benefits of reading, especially students, as this would help change their mindsets.

He made this statement during the commemoration of the World Book and Copyright Day, which took place on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Omanye Aba Hall, Accra Metropolitan Assembly Head Office, Accra.

The World Book and Copyright Day is an important day celebrated by member states of the United Nations (UN) organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), every year, to promote reading, publishing and copyright.

The event was organised under the theme "reading to develop minds"
