Deputy Minister for Education, Gifty Twum Ampofo, has admonished parents to advise their children to accept the schools that the Computerized School Selection Placement System offers them according to their grades in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (B.E.C.E).

Many parents have been bitterly complaining about the school placement system not favouring their children.

Some argue that their children's grades and the schools they are placed in don't match while others too discourage their children from attending certain Senior High Schools.

It appears almost all parents would want their children to attend "category A" schools which are deemed as the best schools, however the Computerized School Selection Placement System is designed to combat the class systems.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Gifty Twum Ampofo called on the parents not to encourage the class systems but rather let their children understand that the name of the school doesn't matter as much as their acquisition of knowledge and skills, basically technical skills, do.

She asked the parents to stop pushing the children to attend particular schools by hook or crook in that when they don't get such school of choice, any other school is inferior.

"It looks like we've placed some class in our minds and it is not helpful to us. So, even as we have broken new grounds, people don't want to consider the new grounds. We know that change is a difficult thing but it's inevitable," she told host Nana Yaw Kesseh.

Gifty Twum Ampofo urged parents and students to accept the schools they are placed in and study hard knowing that no matter the school they attend, they can achieve their life goals.
