AFCON Qualifier: Ghana 3 1 Congo (Full-Time)

The Senior national football team the Black Stars of Ghana have beaten their Congolese counterparts by three goals to one in the ongoing African Nations Cup qualifier played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Friday night. The Black Stars put up an average performance in the first half which could be attributed to the slippery nature of the field due to a slight rain drizzle. German-born Kevin-Prince Boateng played his first match on Ghanaian soil and was handed the task of playing from the right wing position. Prince Tagoe squandered a one-on-one opportunity in the early stages of the game after a long power drive by Michael Essien from a free-kick spot about 30-yards away from goal. The Chelsea midfielder was denied an opener by the Congolese defense in the 25th minute. After recess, Sulley Muntaris powerful free kick struck the cross bar in the 49th minute after Kwadwo Asamoah was brought down at the edge of the box resulting in a red card for the Congolese defender. Dominic Adiyiah came in for Kevin-Prince Boateng before Isaac Vorsah opened the scoreline in the 62th minute after an Agyeman Badu corner kick. Andre Ayew replaced Sulley Muntari in the 61st minute. Prince Tagoe scored the second in the 66th minute adding up his tally to 7 goals for Ghana. Derek Boateng came in for Michael Essien in the 72nd minute before a howler from Richard Kingson made Massadou pulled one back for the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 75th minute. Agyeman Badu opened his account for the Black stars with a cracking shot in the 78th minute making it the 3rd goal for the stars. Ghana is now top of Group I with ten(10) points.
