Gunmen Attack Workers Of Gomoa Fetteh Salt Industry

A group of gunmen numbering about 10 has reportedly attacked workers of the Gomoa Fetteh Salt Industry Limited, a wholy registered salt and real estate company in the Central Region.

Twelve individuals sustained serious gunshot and machette wounds.

They were rushed to the Kasoa Government  Hospital for medical treatment.

The incident occured on Wednesday when workers had reported to work in the morning to begin their daily routing.

Several Directors of the company have signed petition to get the attention of the Inspector General of Police to conduct thorough investigations into the incident.

In a letter dated 13th October, 2022  and signed by the Director of the company, Amos Appiah, he debunked accusations that the workers are landguards.

He however acused one Nana Kwesi Kwansah, Alias Kwesi Alhaji, said to be the 'Mankrado' of Gomoa Fetteh for contesting over same land, hence leading to the attack.

Police officers called to bring the situation under control are also said to have wrongfully arrested some of the workers over accusations that they are landguards.

The statement indicated the injured, many of whom are security guards and administrative staff, were there to protect the property and the over 3000 acres of lands at the site.

Management of the company, who reported the matter to the Central East Regional Police Command - Kasoa, have subsequently requested the attention and presence of the Police to protect the company and its staff.

Mr. Amos Appiah also called on the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah and the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare to swoop the area and arrest all individuals involved in landguard activities in order to protect the lands from encroachment.

Earlier, another press conference held by the Gomoa Fetteh Royal Family on Wednesday, acused Nana Kwesi Kwansah of eroding the progress made in the area following the protracted chieftaincy disputes.

Spokesperson for the royal family, Nana Essel said the family will insist that the 'Mankrado' steps down claiming he is not the true occupant to the stool.

In a five-point agenda, the Royal family said  Queen mother, Ohembaa Amoasina Nkrabea I, who has reigned since 1989, is alive and still on the stool but another Queen mother has been installed.

There is presently an "Omankrado in Gomoa Fetteh but another one has been installed. Again,  another Chief of the royal family and Abusuapanyin have all been replaced by a rival chief and Abusuapanyin respectively”.

"Now the elders and Kingmakers of Gomoa Fetteh do not accept anything untraditional and for that matter we do not recognise these people as chiefs.Usually these de factos load numerous gunmen into the town and they sound several gun shots causing fear and panic an nobody takes them on",
Nana Essel emphasized.
