Akufo-Addo Fires GES Director-General

President Akufo-Addo has relieved Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa of his post as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

A letter from the Presidency dated Monday, October 17 and signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante said his services were no longer needed.

"The Ministry of Education has informed this Office (of President) that the exigencies that required your skills and expertise as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service do not exist any longer".

"Accordingly, the President of the Republic has instructed that your secondment be terminated forthwith, and you are directed to return to your position at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology" the letter stated.

Prof Opoku-Amankwa was first appointed as Director-General (DG) of the GES in April 2017 on secondment from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST".

His contract was extended again in June 2021.

However, according to the dismissal letter, "the extension of your (GES Boss) secondment by the 14th June, 2021 letter is in contravention of the Human Resource Policy Framework and Manual of the Public Services Commission, as it purports to extend your secondment beyond the 3-year maximum limit”
