Ghanaian Businesses Collapse Because Of 'Indiscipline, Jealousy And Envy' - Karma Group CEO Regrets
Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, the founder of the Kama Group of Companies, has deeply lamented about the attitude and work ethics of Ghanaian employees in an exclusive interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay FM's "Ekwanso Dwoodwoo" drive time.
According to the accomplished entrepreneur with vast experience in business, the behavior of many Ghanaian employees towards work, especially when it is their fellow Ghanaian who owns it, is extremely appalling and a major disincentive to establishing a business in Ghana.
Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo intimated to Abeiku Santana how some of his own employees treated his company and how they were executing their duties in a careless manner until Kama Group partnered with a foreign company majorly run by White people.
"When it is 8:00 am and I look at my workers who were reporting to work at 8:20 and would sign that they came at 8 O'clock but now that the Whites are their bosses because it was the white people who were the biggest shareholder, therefore running the company now; this time they (employees) run to work when it is even 5 minutes to 8:00 because the ownership and management of the company has changed and been placed in the hands of a white person. I begin to wonder if it is the colonization that has is still working from the past till date that Ghanaians pay respect to anything a foreigner is handling more than their own", he bemoaned.
He believed Ghanaian workers value foreign businesses because the foreign employers are strict.
"They are strict. He will lay you off right now. But, with the Ghanaian, when you sack a worker, he/she will bring his Chief, Pastor, relatives, members of your church to beg you" but "if you leave the job for a Ghanaian thinking he is your relative or you hail from the same hometown, then they will indeed collapse your business for you."
When asked why some Ghanaian businesses do not thrive well, the pharmaceutical pioneer answered it is due to indiscipline, jealousy and envy from fellow Ghanaians.
"From my experience and knowledge, the employees are mostly the ones collapsing the businesses. This is why I will advise the youth to be selfless, open-minded and willing to work wholeheartedly. You don't take things for granted that the progress of the company or the business mainly depends on me, so now I will bluff the owner or the founder or CEO. I see there is jealousy and envy that the company belongs to a Ghanaian."
