THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will have to struggle to find time out of his busy schedule at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to pursue more academic laurels in the classroom. The King has announced that very soon, he would be enrolling at the Mount Crest University, a private tertiary institution at Larteh in Akuapim, to pursue a Masters Degree in Chieftaincy and Customary Law programme. The Asantehene�s remarks were in response to a special invitation handed to him by the school authorities to pursue the maiden programme at the university so as to attract other traditional leaders in the country to do same. The disclosure was made when the school authorities stormed the Manhyia Palace last Wednesday to join the chiefs and people of Asanteman to celebrate the Awukudae festival. The Mount Crest University, situated at Larteh in the Eastern region, was formed by Kwaku Ansah Asare who is the former Director, Ghana School of Law. The university is currently involved an exchange programme with Michigan University in the USA where students of the two universities travel to each other�s country to study. Some Michigan University students are currently in the country as part of the exchange programme and they made the trip to the Manhyia Palace to pay homage to the King. Mr. Ansah Asare, in a succinct remark, described Otumfuo as an embodiment of education in Ghana, stressing that the Asantehene had changed the face of education in the country since his ascension to the throne. He announced that management of Mount Crest University had plans of constructing another campus of the school in the Ashanti region in the near future.
