No 'Big Man' Can Influence Us . . . - Narcotics Control Commission

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has served notice to every person in Ghana that no matter the person's position nor influence in society, the Commission will arrest him or her if the person offends the narcotics laws.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, acting Director of Public Relations at NACOC, Francis Opoku Amoah stated categorically that anyone who contravenes the laws with regard to narcotics, when caught, will go scot free.

He stated this emphatically when asked by host of the programme, Kwami Sefa Kayi, whether or not some powerful hands are preventing the Commission from exercising its powers to arrest drug smugglers.

The host pointed out to the NACOC PRO that it seems reports about arrest of drug smugglers have reduced drastically to the extent that nothing is being heard about what the Commission is doing to clamp down on the smugglers and wondered if this is so because some "big men" are impeding their job.

In reply, Mr. Opoku Amoah stated; "It doesn't matter who you are, whether you are a big or small man. Once you are caught in contravention of the law, our laws will apply accordingly. You will be arraigned before court."

He also revealed that the Commission is undertaking engaging drug addicts in rehab programmes to wean them off the drugs.
