Assin North By-election: Prof. Smart Sarpong Cautions NDC Against 2024 Elections

Professor Smart Sarpong, a Senior Research Fellow of the Kumasi Technical University, has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for winning the Assin North by-election.

The Assin North by-election, held on Tuesday, June 27, was seen to be a critical election to decide which party would control the country's legislature since if the New Patriotic Party had won, they would have widened the majority gap in the Legislative House.

But things didn't turn out the way the ruling party had expected as their candidate, Charles Opoku, lost the by-election by polling 12630 votes representing 42.15% while the National Democratic Congress' candidate, James Gyakye Quayson polled 17245 votes representing 57.56% to clinch victory.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Prof. Smart Sarpong lauded the party stating they upped their game during the by-election unlike their conduct in the 2020 general elections.

He applauded them for having a well-planned collation process in the Assin North by-election and encouraged them to replicate their good works in the 2024 general elections.

He appealed to the party not to repeat the mistakes they made during the 2020 elections, stressing "they should improve on the collation process. We plead with them that, for 2024, they should be able to complete their collation. It shouldn't be that they could do 5 Regions and their system crashed. No!"
