Leaked Tape or Not George Akuffo Dampare Will Still Be IGP - Charles Owusu

Charles Owusu has downplayed the leaked audio recording concerning discussions allegedly between a Police Commissioner and a former NPP executive to persuade President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Addo from office.

The two people on the tape could be heard discussing why the IGP is no longer useful to the Akufo-Addo government stating grounds of disloyalty on the part of the IGP to the ruling New Patriotic Party.

They also claimed Dr. Dampare will be an impediment to the party's victory in the 2024 elections.

Touching on the leaked tape, the former Head of Monitoring Unit at the Forestry Commission, Charles Owusu says the IGP is going nowhere.

To him, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has shown great leadership, made positive impact on the Police Serive and living an exemplary life; something that, to him, the Police administration has lacked for years.

"IGP Akuffo Dampare is the best...Without tape or no tape, Akuffo Dampare is still IGP and he will still be the IGP," he said on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".

He also rubbished the claims that the IGP will impede the NPP from winning next year's elections.

"Since when did a Police adminstration become Electoral Commissioner to win an election for somebody?", he asked.

He stressed "even Electoral Commission cannot even win election for political party. They only supervise. They cannot win".
