$1m+ €300k Stolen Cash: God Forbid Cecilia Dapaah Will Be Found Guilty - Nana Fredua
Nana Fredua has reacted to the arrest of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah and the public bashing at her following a case of theft against her house helps.
Two of her house helps, Patience Botwe (18) and Sarah Agyei (30) and others are facing criminal trial for allegedly stealing 1 million dollars, €300,000 and millions of cedis belonging to her.
The incident, which occurred last year between July and October, came out publicly days ago and the Minister has been subjected to intense public criticisms for keeping such monies in her home.
The house helps have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing.
Patience Botwe is accused of stealing six sets of kente cloth worth GHc90,000 and six sets of men's suits valued at $3000 which belonged to Ms. Dapaah's husband.
Three other individuals including Botwe's current and former boyfriends and her father are also facing charges for allegedly being involved in dishonestly receiving GHc1 million, GHc180,000 and GHc50,000 respectively.
However, many Ghanaians have questioned the source of Mrs. Dapaah's wealth and also blasting her for stashing millions of dollars and cedis in her home.
The news about the theft has resulted in Mrs. Dapaah's resignation and her subsequent arrest by the Special Prosecutor.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, “At 11:55 GMT on 24 July 2023, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who resigned from the position of Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources on 22 July 2023, was placed under arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in respect of suspected corruption and corruption-related offences regarding large amounts of money and other valuable items reportedly stolen from her residence. Ms. Dapaah is being questioned by authorised Officers of the OSP.”
But Nana Fredua wonders why the former Minister who is the victim of thievery is the one being dressed down.
He found it shocking the thieves are not the focus of people's concerns but rather why a self-built wealthy woman would keep her money in her home is the talk of the town.
"Are we saying it is appropriate for the thieves to have stolen the money?", he questioned.
To Nana Fredua, Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah is innocent and her innocence will soon be proven to all Ghanaians.
"God forbid. It will never occur that she will be found guilty because I know and accept her truth," he exclaimed while dealing with the matter on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show.
