Ya-Nas Tape Saga: Kofi Adams Is Inciting Northerners Against NDC - Victor Smith

Ghanas Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Victor Smith has cited Former President Rawlings Special Aide, Kofi Adams of inciting the people of Tamale to violence in his bid to campaign for the flagbearership of Mrs Rawlings. Aide to the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams is accusing government of doing very little to bring the alleged killers of the Ya-Na to book. He told delegates and some supporters of the NDC in Tamale, where Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings had gone to campaign, that Mr. Rawlings had handed over a video evidence of the killing of the Over-lord to government and the Attorney General to help in the prosecution of the perpetrators. Adams is convinced that with the video evidence and thorough investigation, government should be able to secure justice but doubted if the Mills administration is competent enough to do it. However, Mr Victor Smith described the assertion as not only false, but also to incite the people to violence. Speaking in an interview with Xfm 95.1, Mr Smith, who filmed the said tape, said it does not contain any information of people killing people or anything that happened; adding, it was one witness account of what happened. The tape I gave to him (the Deputy Attorney General) has a narration of events during March 2002 by an individual who claimed to be the nephew of the Ya Na and was present at the Gbewaa Palace and witnessed the alleged incident. So he told me the story and I filmed him; he did not bring me any tape. Mr Smith described Mr Adams statement as a very dangerous thing, giving an impression that the government was given a very crucial tape that should have nailed the killers of the Ya Na. It is a very dangerous thing that Kofi Adams and the FONKAR group are doing in the Northern Region trying to suggest and to incite the people there. Certainly, if Kofi Adams saw the tape, a copy of which I gave to Mrs Rawlings, if that is the tape he saw, he would not be saying the kind of things he said.
