Cecilia Dapaah Stolen Money: Court Directs Prosecution To Fast Track Investigations for Trial To Commence

The Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Afia Owusuaa Appiah has directed that prosecution fast track the investigations into the alleged stealing case at the residence of former Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

This directive comes in response to a request for a two-week adjournment by Assistant State Attorney, Akosua Agyaponmaa Agyemang.

The court has also instructed the prosecution to file its disclosures by September 19, 2023.

During the court proceedings, the defense lawyers requested bail for Patience Botwe (first accused) Benjamin Sowah ( third accused) and Yahaya Sumaila ( seventh accused).

However, bail was granted only to the seventh accused, Yahaya Sumaila.

Lawyers for Patience Botwe said, they were short served with the prosecution’s affidavit in opposition for bail and needed time to respond to it.

The Judge, Afia Owusuaa Appiah granted bail to Sumaila, in the sum of Three Hundred Thousand cedis (GHC 300,000.00) with two justifiable sureties residing within the court's jurisdiction.

Additionally, Yahaya Sumaila was required to deposit his passport at the court's registry and report to the Police every two weeks.

However, the third accused, Benjamin Sowah, who is alleged to be the boyfriend of the first accused, Patience Botwe, was denied bail. The court cited the seriousness of the charges against him, his subsequent arrest in Tamale, and the severity of the case as reasons for the denial.

The case involves seven individuals, including a househelp of the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, who are facing allegations of stealing money and items worth millions of cedis.

The court has adjourned the case to September 19, 2023.
