NPP Flagbearership: Bawumia Has Already Engaged With About 160,000 Delegates - Sammi Awuku Reveals

Sammi Awuku, the Director General of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), has debunked claims that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is being favored by the leadership of the New Patriotic Party to become the party's flagbearer.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is in the New Patriotic Party's presidential race competing with the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and a leading member of the party, Francis Addai Nimoh on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

However, the Vice President has been accused of being an "establishment candidate" which is interpreted to mean he has been placed at a very advantageous position with all the necessary resources including State funds provided to aid his campaign.

Responding to the accusations hurled at Veep, Sammi Awuku, in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", stated categorically that the Vice President's ability to win the NPP super delegates election in August and certainty of him becoming the party's flagbearer are all due to his diligence and hard work.

He noted that the Vice President has been working harder to realize his vision of leading the NPP into the 2024 elections.

Sammi Awuku cited that Dr. Bawumia has personally visited most of the NPP Parliamentarians and delegates, going house-to-house to sell his campaign message to them, among other personal engagements with the rank and file of the party ahead the flagbearer race.

He also disclosed that Dr. Bawumia has engaged with over 120,000 out of the over 200,000 delegates expected to participate in the November 4 election.

He so wondered how any member of the NPP would accuse the party of trying to favor the Vice President because, to him, Dr. Bawumia's victory will be on merit.

"Personally, he's visiting constituency by constituency. Out of the 205,000 delegates, he has currently interacted with not less than 160,000 of these delegates . . . before the super delegates, he had engaged with 128,000 delegates out of the 205,000. He combines that too effectively with his official duties. There are times he will come from his campaign trail to do his official duties, then he moves back to the field," he said.
