Attack On UTV: 'I'm Watching Closely What The Party Will Do To The Attackers' - Sefa Kayi Serves Notice To NPP

Broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi says he will be watching the New Patriotic Party closely to find out what the party will do to its youth who invaded UTV while the station's "United Showbiz" programme was in session.

About 30 fanatics of the New Patriotic Party, on Saturday, October 7, stormed the UTV studios insisting to be part of United Showbiz and interrupting the show.

They also demanded an apology from a panel member, A-Plus, who ripped a letter that the party had addressed to the General Manager of the television network asking for a reform of the entertainment show.

Closing his morning programme "Kokrokoo" aired on Peace FM on Monday, Kwami Sefa Kayi, affectionately called 'Chairman General', questioned why the party hasn't taken disciplinary action against the invaders since the incident happened.

He served notice to the NPP saying "apart from what the Police will do, I want to see what the NPP will do to those youth, particularly the one who is said to be the acting Regional Youth Organizer...I will follow closely".

The Police arrested about sixteen (16) of the thugs.

The New Patriotic Party has distanced itself from the attack stating the party "had not endorsed or sanctioned the disruptive actions. We strongly disapprove of such behaviour".

Also, government has urged the Police to expedite investigations into the issue.

“The right to free expression and the freedom of the media are key pillars of our democracy and must be fiercely protected”, Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkruamh said in the statement.
