Safisana Ghana Limited Demands Gov't Assistance to Improve Nationwide Waste Management

On World Toilet Day which was marked Novermber 19, Safisana Ghana Limited, a waste management firm in Accra, appealed for government support to bolster effective waste management nationwide.

The General Manager, Asilevi Elipklim, emphasized the plea during a sensitization program organized by the company and the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly to educate Ashaiman residents on the importance of proper sanitation and waste treatment.

Mr. Elipklim, speaking to UTV news, underscored the necessity for external aid to assist waste management companies in realizing SDG goal 6, aiming for universal access to clean water and sanitation.

"The theme for this year's Toilet Day celebration is "Accelerating Change". It means that, we are growing at a slow pace in achieving the SDG goal 6. The regenerative approach to sanitation and Valorisation of waste has not gained much traction in Ghana.

We need to do more in terms of closing the loop for waste. We can expand our scope to achieve this if we get support from the Government, NGO's and individuals" Asilevi said.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Albert Boakye Okyere, asserted that households lacking toilet facilities must take corrective action or be subject to legal consequences.

" When you look at Ashaiman now, you realise there has been an improvement in our sanitation but we still have some recalcitrant residents who go against the law. Such people will not be spared. The household toilet policy is not solely funded by landlords. The Assembly and its partners pay a percentage so households who lack toilet facilities will be taken on" he said.

Safisana Ghana limited is a waste management company that converts faecal matter into the generation of power.

Apart from converting faecal matter into power to support the national grid, the company also produces compost fertilizer from the same faecal matter to support agriculture in the country.
