Obey All Road Safety Rules and Regulations - Ghanaians Urged By NRSA Ahead of Christmas Season

The National Road Safety Authority(NRSA) has admonished Ghanaians to follow all road safety rules and regulations in order to ensure safety on our during the Christmas season which is approaching.

According to them, the road space has been populated during these times with number of vehicles and people most of who conduct themselves recklessly placing the lives of other road users at risk.

Speaking at the launch of the 2023 road safety Christmas campaign under the theme 'Stop Speeding, Stay Alive, the Director General of the National Road Safety Authority, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng said that there is the high tendency of road users especially drivers and riders ignoring all road traffic rules and move people to their destination in a hasty manner without due care during the Christmas seasons.

He stated that the travel speed drivers and riders has to use are significantly higher and overtaking other vehicles at wrong locations has become worse.

He also stated that some of the drivers and riders also drive under the influence of alcohol and drug substances which is not right.

Engineer David Adonteng stated again that the NRSA recorded 142 crashes ,215 injuries and 25 deaths during last year 2022 Christmas from December 24 - 26.

He continued that there were 11,694 cases of road crashes that has been reported resulting in 12,678 persons injured and 1,839 persons killed from January to October this year according to the available provisional data from the Ghana Police Service.

He said that the National Road Safety Authority will be on various roads to make sure drivers and riders obey such road safety rules and regulations.

He therefore pleaded with the Media to use their platform to educate individuals on the road safety rules and regulations to ensure safety on our roads.

Chief Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng Director In charge of Education, research training at Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police also added the new technology which is the traffitech-Gh also known as #Piaw introduced by the Ghana Police Service will help instill discipline in the drivers and riders who will drive carelessly because this traffitech-Gh will detect any wrong regarding road safety management by drivers on the road and asked them to be focused.

Also speaking at the launch, the communications director for the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), Mr. Ohene Yeboah admonished drivers to use road safety regulations to reduce the number of accidents and casualties during the Christmas season.
