NPP Running Mate: I'm Extremely Confident Bawumia Will Choose Wisely - Salam Mustapha

Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party, has reposed confidence in their flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to select a Running Mate who is loved by the party.

The New Patriotic Party has extended the time for the Vice President to announce his Running Mate.

Dr. Bawumia was expected to declare his Running Mate yesterday but upon his request for more time to make his decision, the party’s National Council, which has the power to make exceptions to the party’s rules, has waived this requirement.

Speaking at the Alisa Hotel, the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said; “In line with our constitution, particularly about Article 13 (32) ‘the vice presidential candidate shall be a known and active member at least five years and shall be nominated by the presidential candidate at least 12 months before general elections when the party is not in government or the president is not the candidate.”

He further stated; “The National Council may, however, dispense with this requirement under special circumstances. From the interpretation of this article, it presupposes that today should have been the day our leader of the party and our presidential candidate should have presented his running mate to the National Council.”

“However, upon request from the presidential candidate that because his election was done on November 4, 2023, he needs a bit of time to continue with his consultation before he brings the proposed name for running mate to the National Council,” he added.

Reacting to the matter during Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Salam Mustapha agreed with the Vice Presidential's request believing it will offer him the chance to select a good Vice Presidential candidate for the party.

"I am extremely confident that, at the end of the processes, the presidential candidate will nominate somebody who will be accepted by the party. I am very, very confident because I know how the presidential candidate works. He is very, very meticulous", he opined.
