Prisoner Shit Bombs Colleague Inmate

AN INMATE at the Obuasi Local Prisons in the Ashanti region has fallen foul of the law for allegedly smearing his colleague inmate with human excreta, after a misunderstanding ensued between them. Kwame Eric, an illegal miner who is on remand for allegedly issuing a death threat against his uncle, is said to have perpetrated the inhuman act on Kojo Bekoe, who is a block leader in charge of inmates at the Obuasi Prisons. The incident took place on January 20 this year at about 7:00 am when the inmates were in a queue to receive their breakfast. The accused had taken offence at the way the food was being served, and as leader of the inmates, Kojo Bekoe intervened and pulled the accused into his cell room for peace to prevail. But Kwame Eric, who was full of anger, dashed into the general toilet cubicle, collected an amount of faeces with his hand and ran back to hit the block leader in the face, to the surprise of others. DSP Yaw Obeng Asubonteng, police prosecutor, who narrated the incident to an Obuasi Circuit Court presided over by Gilbert Ayisi Addo, said the action of the accused person was reported to the police. According to prosecution, the accused person, in his caution statement, alleged that Kojo Bekoe had rather bought a pair of sandals from him at the cost of GH6.00 and paid GH4.00. DSP Asubonteng stated further that the accused claimed Bekoe refused to pay him the remaining GH2.00 and beat him (accused) any time a request was made, eventually leading to the incident on that morning. Prosecution said the accused alleged that Bekoe, on the day in question, led him to his room and beat him up, during which he sustained a cut on the lips. He said the accused claimed he defecated into his palm and threw the faeces in the face of Bekoe as payback. Mr. Asubonteng indicated that Kwame Eric admitted to the offence in his statement to the police and after investigation, he was charged and arraigned. The trial judge adjourned the case to next week after the accused pleaded not guilty to charge of offensive conduct, contrary to section 207 of Criminal Offences Act 1960.
