Are We Prepared To Back Prez Akufo-Addo When He Signs Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill? - Kokofu Queries Ghanaians

Henry Kokofu, the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency, has expressed worry over the pressure on President Nana Akufo-Addo to sign the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

The President has been asked by The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council and many Ghanaians to sign the bill.

The Pentecostal Council, in a press release, said; “Like every nation, Ghana is defined by her unique cultural and family values. Therefore, the GPCC take this opportunity to kindly request that the President of the Republic gives assent to this Bill to bring finality to this advocacy which seeks to uphold our long standing religious and cultural family value system. This is the earnest expectation of most Ghanaians.”

Speaking on Peace FM's Tuesday edition of "Kokrokoo" show, Henry Kokofu pitied the President as Nana Akufo-Addo is now between the devil and the deep blue sea.

To him, this is one of the most difficult situations for a President to find himself in because whatever decision he makes will still bite the nation.

Mr. Kokofu asked Ghanaians if they are prepared to back the President up and face the repercussions of the bill becoming law.

"As we tell the President to sign, are we backing him with our hearts and minds? When he signs and there are consequences, are we prepared as human beings, as people of Ghana . . . that we are with you, Mr. President?" he questioned.

He hoped the citizens will not later turn around to blame the President if after assenting to the bill comes consequences.

"We've got to a point that we have to be nationalistic . . . let us assure the President as a people. This is the time he needs our encouragement," he stressed.
