Is $3.8 Billion The Value Of Our Independence?...What A Shame! - Pratt Blasts Finance Ministry

Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt has replied the Finance Ministry on their warning to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to sign the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

The Ministry of Finance, in a statement, warns legitimizing the bill will have severe consequences on Ghana.

The Ministry reveals the nation will lose over 3 billion dollars if the bill becomes law.

“In total, Ghana is likely to lose US$3.8 billion in World Bank Financing over the next five to six years. For 2024 Ghana will lose US$600 million Budget support and US$250 million for the Financial Stability Fund. This will negatively impact on Ghana’s foreign exchange reserves and exchange rate stability as these inflows are expected to shore the country’s reserve position”, parts of the Finance Ministry's statement read.

Kwesi Pratt, in response, has questioned the essence of the Ministry's caution.

Reacting during Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Mr. Pratt was saddened that Ghana celebrates its 67th independence anniversary but all conversations are about homosexuality and the anti-LGBTQ+ bill that seeks to check the homosexual society.

The bill criminalizes all LGBTQ+ practices and culprits will face a six-month to 5 years sentence to prison.

Kwesi Pratt was extremely disappointed in the Finance Ministry that Ghana will lose over 3 billion dollars, so seemingly compelling the President not to assent to the bill.

To him, he cares less about any person's sexual preferences stressing "I don't want to know what people do in their bedrooms" but it becomes a problem when someone wants to publicly display his or her unnatural sexual orientation.

To Mr. Pratt, it is very disappointing that LGBTQ-related discussions have taken precedence over Ghana's independence anniversary which comes off on 6th March.

"What is the meaning of our independence?...Is our independence worth the 3.8 billion?...Is that the value of our independence?", he fumed.

"What a shame! I can't believe it", he slammed the Ministry as well as expressed worry over the turn of events.
