Memories Of Mfanstiman Girls Secondary School As MOGA 1999 Readies To Host 64th Anniversary

Twenty-five years ago in 1999, my year Group  who were the last of the 90’s gained admission to study in various disciplines at Mfantsiman Girls Secondary  School.

Donned in our various check house dresses  from different backgrounds we were warmly received at the School’s Roundabout in 1997 and our stay for the next three years took off.

We bonded easily and from 1997-1999 we were groomed  into becoming who we are now.  We are going to honour the memory of our late headmistress during our time Mrs. Elizabeth Afedziwa Croffie whom we affectionately called  Headiee and our founding fathers, current  and past leadership of the school and stakeholders who helped shaped us and other old girls  in society who are trail blazers in their chosen fields.

On that soil we were groomed to become responsible. The aim was to equip us with essential skills that would enable us to harness our potential and contribute productively to society.

Aside our curriculum, conscious efforts were made to ensure that independent women were raised. Three years of stay at Mfantsiman was amazing  I must admit. Both staff and non-teaching staff all contributed to our making into who we are today hence wherever any Mfantsiman old girl is they are able to perform creditably.

I am  excited to join my year group  to give back  to our alma mater. The purple girls are going back to their roots. In contributing our quota, the 64th Edition of the Speech and Prize Giving day powered by the 1999 Year Group; the last of the 90’s have contributed towards the school’s legacy  project to build a multi purpose state-of-the art library to address the educational needs of the current crop of students and other  generations who will gain admission into our proud alma mater.

Our school motto  'Obra Nye Woara abo' in fanti meaning 'Life is what you make it' thankfully  has been phenomenal in our lives.  Another line of our school ode,  Obra pa so gye owura kwan has  impacted us positively and contributed to our sustenance.

The Speech Day Committee and entire  MOGA 1999  Well done for the sacrifices and the Yeo Man’s job in bringing everything to reality.

On the 14th of March 2024, We are going back to our roots for the Home-Coming where it all began.

About Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School

Mfantsiman Girls  school was built by Ghana’s First President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in commemoration of the profound and significant role played by the women of Saltpond in the nation's struggle for independence.  Formerly known as Saltpond Girls, the school  was aimed to facilitate poverty alleviation, foster socio-economic growth and contribute to the overall development of the nation.

Mfantsiman Girls Secondary School was officially opened on the 30th of September, 1960, as one of the renowned Ghana Education Trust (GET) Schools.

It was claimed the school selected 70 girls from the Common Entrance Examination who became the first batch of the school with Mrs. Beatrice Chinery as the first headmistress.
