Race Course Fire: Chief Of Staff Supports Victims

Traders of Race course market in Kumasi of the Ashanti region who lost their properties to a fire incident have expressed gratitude to the Chief of Staff, Hon Akosua Fremah Osei Opare for her support.

The Chief of Staff has provided building materials to start with the rebuilding of the affected area after fire gutted the area of the market on 11th March, 2024 destroying properties running into millions of Ghana cedis.

Some of the materials she presented include roofing sheets, galvanized poles, woods, iron nails, chippings, tons of iron rods, bags of cement among others.

In an interview the Queenmother of the market Nana Akua Kyeiwaa and other affected traders recounted the continued support from the office of the Chief of Staff anytime they face difficult times.

“She has been our support system and we believe if we have this kind of women in our society who support women, burdens on some vulnerable women will be lessened” they added.

Nana Akua Kyeiwaa admonished traders to be mindful of their activities to avoid fire incidents which are becoming rampant in the market.

Peacefmonline Sampson Kwame Nyamekye said Work has already begun on the site. Grader machine was spotted preparing the grounds for construction.

Close to 200 stalls and properties worth millions of cedis were ravaged in a fire outbreak at the Kumasi Race Course Market, one of the biggest growing satellite markets in the Ashanti Region.

Reports indicated that the fire began on the morning of March 11, and as of noon, it has still not been extinguished by the Ghana Fire Service.
