24-Hour Economy Can Reduce 'Goro Boys' - Asani Tanoh Says As He Backs New Passport Fees

Political commentator, Yaw Asani Tanoh has backed the over 400% increment in the fees for acquiring passports in Ghana.

Effective Monday, April 1, 2024, a 32-page standard passport moved from GHC100 to GHC500 and GHC644 for a 48-page standard booklet. Applicants opting for the 32-page expedited service will pay GHC700 and GHC800 for the 48-page expedited service.

However, a section of the public has kicked against the increments.

Asani Tanoh reacting to this on Neat FM's Me Man Nti programme, said: "Now the Ghana card is what is required everywhere; no one asks for a Passport or driving license anymore; it's only when you really need it to travel and so it makes sense to take away the subsidy".

"We should also understand that scrapping the subsidy on the Passport won't take away 'goro boys'...the only thing that can reduce 'goro boys' is the 24-hour economy..." he added.
