Twelve Ghana Footballers To Be Honoured In New York On Saturday

Twelve Ghanaian footballers, including five former Black Stars players, are headed for the United States of America to be honoured at a special Awards Night in New York on Saturday. The 3G Media Stars Award scheduled for the Armenia Hall at Bronz in New York will honour Dribbling Magician, Rev. Osei Kofi, Kwasi Appiah, Ibrahim Sunday and Kuuku Dadzie for their respective contributions to Ghana football over the years. Awards night organiser, 3G Media, an America-based Ghanaian organisation, will also honour Kevin-Prince Boateng, Dede Ayew, Asamoah Gyan, John Mensah, John Paintsil, Sulley Muntari and former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, at the ball where some stars in American showbiz are expected to perform. Organisers say the seven active players of the Black Stars distinguished themselves in the past year and deserve the honour to motivate fellow nationals to aspire to stardom and excellence. More importantly, they said the seven active players displayed excellence during the Stars campaign at the World Cup, and despite the pain of losing out narrowly to Uruguay at the quarter-final stage, they believed the players had done enough to deserve the honours. For Dede Ayew, organisers said his ability to overcome the somewhat ignominious reputation of having to revert to the Under-20 side from where he rose to the Stars again was a reason that should inspire the average person in pursuit of his goals. Appiah is mentioned in high regard for his exemplary leadership qualities during his time as Black Stas captain. That he led the team to two Fifa World Cups was an outstanding feat that could not be blighted by the circumstances of his resignation or retirement from the team. Others such as K.P. Boateng, Muntari, Mensah and Paintsil ae being honoured for their commitment to the national cause.
