Ambrose Dery Hailed

AMBROSE DERY, Member of Parliament (MP) for Lawra/Nandom, has been applauded by his constituents for helping improve the standard of education in the area. Daily Guide can confirm that Ambrose Dery, who is also the Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, is enjoying overwhelming support from his constituents due to his enviable demeanour and his passion to address the concerns of his people. Speaking to Daily Guide in an interview, the Director of Administration at the Office of the MP at Lawra, WOI Adams Ankyere (Rtd), pointed out that the Deputy Minority Leader was receiving plaudits from the people because he had been assisting many needy students and their families. According to him, Mr. Ambrose Dery had used his share of the MPs� Common Fund to support over 330 students in various Senior High Schools and tertiary institutions throughout the country. Out of the number, 113 students, including 22 student nurses, WOI Adams disclosed, were assisted in 2009 with a total amount of GH�23,522.00. Again in 2010, 129 students, including a law student, were assisted with a sum of GH�29,875.00 For this year, WOI Adams indicated that 88 students, including 54 females, were assisted in January with GH�18,600.00. According to him, Mr. Ambrose Dery was keen on improving the standard of girl-child education in the constituency, hence his desire to support more female students in the area. According to WOI Adams, additional applications from about 75 students had been processed and they would be receiving about GH�27,400.00, latest by June ending. As part of efforts to further improve the standard of education in the Lawra/Nandom constituency, Mr. Ambrose Dery has used his MPs� share of GETfund, totalling GH�428,714.10, to build educational infrastructure. WOI Adams, who took Daily Guide on a tour of some of the projects being undertaken, indicated that a 6-unit classroom block with an office, a toilet and other accessories had been constructed at Nanyaare in Lawra at the cost of GH�149,000.00. A similar edifice has been constructed at Nabugun in Nandom, also at the cost of GH�149,000.00. Furthermore, two kindergarten schools have been constructed at Meto Yirpaala and Pufion Baagan in Lawra and Nandom respectively, with each costing GH�65,357.05. To further improve the quality of education in Lawra/Nandom, the MP has organized a �what do you know� competition for 40 Junior High School (SHS) students. Twenty-five students were selected from Nandom while 15 were chosen from Lawra. WOI Adams told Daily Guide that Mr. Ambrose Dery would be presenting awards to deserving students during various festivals in Nandom and Lawra during the year.
