Ho NPP: Mills' Volta University Promise Is Illusion
New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives in the Ho Central constituency have expressed concern about the slow pace of work in establishing a new university for the Volta Region.
Addressing a press conference to react to claims by National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency executives in the area that President Kufuor failed to develop the region in his eight-year rule, the NPP executives claimed government is yet to secure lands at the proposed site for the construction of the university.
A Research Officer at the Ho constituency of the NPP Paul Abba told Joy News the construction has remained an illusion.
He also said land earmarked for the project is being encroached upon by private developers. As we all sit here today the bill for the establishment of the university has not even been sent to Parliament for consideration before accreditation yet a promise to begin in September 2011 continues to sound in our ears, he said.
The NDC government has promised to build a university for the region during the electioneering campaign.
Some residents, especially the youth, are thought to have voted for the NDC because of the promise to give them a place to pursue higher learning.
