The police capo, speaking at the re-launching of the Crime Fighters Confidential Hotline in Kumasi, observed that in these modern times combating crime is a shared responsibility. As you may be aware, modern policing principles demand that police partner members of the communities to combat crime in all communities and also reduce the fear of crime. The police service, in partnership with telecommunication networks like MTN and Vodafone, as well as the British High Commission, launched a toll free mobile telephony short code 18555 in Kumasi to help combat crime. The project is under the code name Crime Fighters Confidential Hotline and is geared towards reducing crime and giving total protection to persons in Ghana. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander said the Crime Fighters Confidential Hotline would be launched in all the regions by October this year. Commenting on the positive aspects of the programme, DCOP Timbillah said the toll free short code would help the police to be on call 24-hours so as to respond quickly to crime incidents as well as answer queries and provide advice on crime related issues in the country. He reiterated the need for the general public to freely provide the police service with confidential information relating to crime in order to arrest people involved in crime and also prevent crime.
