Mills Campaign Team Holds Final Strategic Meeting

The campaign team of President Mills will hold its final strategic meeting in Accra today July 4 ahead of the NDC presidential primaries scheduled for Sunyani from July 8 10, 2011. President Mills is expected to play a major role in the meeting which will outline the campaign teams concluding activities before the congress. Leading members of the Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME) which is spearheading President Mills' re-election bid have described recent meetings with delegates as "impressive" and are hopeful the president will win the contest by a landslide. The National Campaign Manager of GAME, J H Owusu-Acheampong, told Citi News the team has done enough to get President Mills endorsed at the congress. Today (July 4) the campaign team would be meeting in Accra to finalise everything. "I am in the Brong Ahafo Region right now and tomorrow I will be meeting the Brong Ahafo GAME team to conclude everything and getting ready for the congress at the weekend. "As far as we are concerned, the President's campaign has gone on very well throughout the country and we are hoping for the best on Saturday. "So far we have been received so well everywhere we have gone to and the understanding is that we thought it is going to be a follow up of Rawlings time and Kufuors time, that is the second term of each, as in nobody contested them; but this has not happened. "This time round somebody is contesting the President for the second term so we have campaigned vigorously to ensure that he continues to the eighth year. "As far as we are concerned, the campaign has gone on very well and we are going to win. Mr. Acheampong also disclosed that President Mills expects a free and fair electoral process and will accept the outcome of the voting even if it does not go in his favor. We are expecting a very peaceful congress, I mean we believe that this is a fight within the family so it is not going to be anything different. "We are going to have a peaceful congress, we are going to relate to each other very nicely at congress and we do not think that anything will happen that will be unreasonable. "We will meet as friends on Friday and Saturday and on Sunday we leave Sunyani to our various places. The President you know is a democratic person, he would certainly accept the results as it comes but I am sure he knows that he is going to win and we are all hopeful that we are going to win massively. In a related development, Vice President John Mahama is meeting delegates in the northern part of the country to convince them of the need to retain his boss for the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections. John Jinapor, Spokesperson of the Vice President, told Citi News the response of the delegates has been encouraging, and H.E. John Mahama is convinced President Mills will defeat Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. The Vice (President)has not hidden his wish that President Mills continues to be the President and the leader of the party. (We met the delegates) to throw our weight behind President Mills, to support his cause or simply to tell them why President Mills should be retained and to convince the delegates that it would be in our interest to vote overwhelmingly and massively for his Excellency the President so every Ghanaian would know that we still have confidence in him. "I can confirm to you that the message has gone down well with the delegates and we are very convinced that when we go to Sunyani, President Mills would receive a massive endorsement from the delegates.
