A past Deputy Minister for Environment in the Rawlings led administration, Mr. Sam Pee Yalley, has made a passionate appeal to delegates of the National Democratic Congress, to vote for President J.E.A Mills at the July 9-10 Congress in order to save the Rawlingses from persecution. Speaking to Shamima Muslim on the Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Thursday July 7, the Public Interest Lawyer and former General Secretary of the Egle Party, which together with other political movements formed an alliance with the NDC, said a victory for Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, the Former First Lady, will be a defeat to the opposition New Patriotic Party. According to him, when that happens, there would be a renewed persecution of the former first couple. Citing Nana Konadu�s Court trials during the previous NPP administration as an example, Mr. Sam Pee Yalley noted that what NDC delegates can do to save the Rawlingses from persecution and prosecution, is to endorse President Mills for the 2012 General Elections. �We are going to Sunyani and I will make a passionate appeal to vote for President Mills to save the Rawlingses. You know that, for the last part of the presidency of Kufuor, Nana Konadu was almost always in Court and she was merely pardoned. It must be remembered that Mr. Rawlings had almost all his privileges withdrawn except his entitlements. And I am not too sure that Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings will be more comfortable under an NPP government than under President Mills� he noted. Mr. Yalley said it was high time the NDC wean itself of the support of Mr. Rawlings, because according to him, the charismatic leader will not always be available to lend his support to the party. �It is true that President Rawlings has contributed a lot to the NDC but he won�t always be there. If President Mills does not win, there are very serious repercussions for this country. So I am just appealing to all the delegates to know that President Mills has seriously dealt with President Rawlings in a very human way but not all the facts are coming out. I want to appeal to them to vote massively for President Mills to save the legacy of President Rawlings and also to save the Rawlingses from further persecution if the NPP takes over power�.
