The founder and chairman of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), has told Citi News that the party is on its way back to the National Democratic Congress after its leading members broke away some years ago. The DPF was founded by some peeved members of the National Democratic Congress after the infamous Koforidua Congress in 2006. Life patron and founder of the DFP Dr. Yao Obed Asamoah who served a term as NDC chairman and lost a second term bid at the 2006 congress, told Citi News that he has been in talks with President Mills and the return of the DFP to their mother party has been planned. Dr. Asamoah left the NDC days after the Koforidua congress, with other senior members of the NDC including then acting General Secretary, Bede Zieden, and Frances Assiam, a former Women's Organiser. Dr Asamoah said the fusion of the two parties will be announced shortly, adding �I have had discussions with Professor Mills, we have met and agreed to let bygones be bygones and learn to create a machinery for discussions between the two parties that would enable the two parties to work together in the future�. �You cannot keep on nursing your grievance for life and so if somebody comes and says let bygones be bygones, let us forget the past, and let us try to work together in the future, I think it is natural that one should consider such a situation seriously and discussions are going on... �I do not want to give you a time frame, I believe that it would not be too long before that result occurs�.
