Sunyani Records Mammoth Crowd

The Sunyani Municipality of the Brong Ahafo region witnessed one of the largest crowds last weekend as a result of the national delegates congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which saw the election of President Mills as the partys flagbearer for the 2012 polls. NDC delegates from across the 10 regions of the country and beyond added colour to the historic occasion. Many security personnel drawn from the police, army and national security agents were also in attendance. Members of the diplomatic corps, foreign monitoring agents, friends and sympathizers of the NDC from across the globe also came in large numbers. The influx of people suddenly increased the population of Sunyani to the amazement of the local people. This development caused congestion that has never been recorded in the entire Sunyani Municipality. Surprisingly, the Sunyani Municipality, which is noted to be very quiet, came alive. The number of people in the city was so great that walking from one end of the traffic light area to the Coronation Park became virtually impossible. The influx of people adversely affected the free flow of vehicular. Local people that spoke to Daily Guide said the place is often quiet, adding that they were amazed at the increase in noise and congestion in the area. They noted that though the NDC congress impacted positively on the sale of goods, it brought hardship on them in terms of movement of people and vehicles.
