Frances Assiam On Why Obed Asamoah Is Joining Forces With the NDC

The Former Womens Organiser of the NDC and now staunch member of the NPP, Frances Awurabena Assiam, who before then was a leading member of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has said she is not surprised with the decision of the DFPs to re-unite with the NDC. Frances Assiam was among a number of persons who left the NDC to form a new political party, the DFP, after the acrimonious scenes that characterized an NDC congress in Koforidua in 2006. The DFP founder Dr. Yao Obed Asamoah who was himself former Chairman of the NDC told Citi FM in an interview that his party is in talks with the NDC and would be going back very soon. I have had discussions with Professor Mills, we have met and agreed to let bygones be bygones and learn to create a machinery for discussions between the two parties that would enable the two parties to work together in the future, he disclosed. According to Ms Assiam, who is the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Adenta constituency, said I am not surprised because we are in a democratic dispensation and probably so many things go into the decisions we make.. In 2008, Dr. Asamoah and leadership of which I was a vice chairperson, allied with the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo, had a very vigorous campaign with and for the NPP, supported them openly and if they have chosen to go back to the NDC, then probably certain circumstances influenced the decision of the DFP. I think it is early days yet, let us watch. Frances Essiam also indicated the decision of Dr. Asamoah and the leadership of the DFP could be because of the betrayal that took place during the 2006 NDC congress when then President Rawlings handpicked Professor Mills over his long time friend Dr. Obed Asamoah, to be the flagbearer of the NDC. She said, For the DFP side, it would be like we stood by you and we were loyal to you, you sacrificed us and threw us out of the window like what they are doing to the Rawlingses now, that is what they did to us and those currently in the leadership of the DFP so I feel that it is more of a sense of vindication for Dr. Asamoah and co ....
