Friends of Atta Akyea Ask A-G To Stay Off MP's Case

A group calling itself Friends of Samuel Atta Akyea is asking the Attorney General Mr Martin Amidu to stay off the case involving the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa. The MP was last week picked up whilst in court and charged with stealing and fraudulent breach of trust between him and his former client Joseph Adom of J. Adom Ltd. The arrest was purported to be under the orders of the Attorney General but the group says the involvement of the Attorney General in the case is a violation of the constitution as well as a smear campaign against the MP. Spokesperson for the group Samuel Adjei wondered why the case - a purely civil matter - was given a criminal twist. We are wondering why this civil case will be given a criminal twist in order to tarnish his hard-won name and reputation. We are again protesting against the AG for breaching the 1992 constitution by ordering the infamous arrest of our honourable Member of Parliament in a manner reminiscent of the revolution era, he said. We are reminding the honourable AG that arrest must never be used simply because it can be used. We are imputing political vendetta and selective justice just to start a smear campaign against our MP.
