NPP Youth Warn NDC...

A youth group in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) known as the Young Patriots have called for an end to the politics of insults in the country, particularly lies, personality attacks, and smear campaigns against leaders of the NPP by NDC government appointees and party activists. In furtherance of their call, the group has called on President Mills, as leader of the NDC and President of the country, to call his appointees to order. But, if no action is taken, we the young patriots of the NPP would henceforth take a stand. We would stand up against this campaign. Every insult, personal attacks, fabrication, lies, smear campaign against our leaders shall be met with an equal and opposite insults, personal attacks, fabrication, lies and smear campaign against NDC leaders the group stated in a release copied to citifmonline.com on Tuesday July 19, 2011. Below is the full statement: YOUNG PATRIOTS AGAINST THE CAMPAIGN OF INSULTS Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the press, we the young patriots of the NPP have invited you here to share with you some concerns with the nature of political discourse in the country. We have hoped that our political discourse will be focused on ideas, policies and programmes that can truly deliver jobs to the teeming unemployed and lift the mass of our people out of poverty. Rather we have noticed that political discourse of from the NDC government appointees, party activists have increasingly been focused on personal attacks, fabrications, wicked lies, and smear campaign against NPP leaders and functionaries. It is becoming increasingly clear that this culture of lies, personal attacks fabrications and smear campaign against NPP leaders is a deliberate political campaign strategy of the NDC. NPP leaders without any evidence described as thieves, drug addicts, drug barons, fruit cakes, uncivilized, uncouth, drunkards, perverts . The list goes on. It is clear to us that this insults and lies against our leaders is now a growth industry, an admission made by no less a person than ex president Rawlings, the founder of the NDC in an address in Kumasi. Where he admitted that one sure way of getting a reward or appointment in the NDC is to attack political opponents. The better Ghana agenda seems now to be a better propaganda agenda. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a street (sic) disappointment that civil society, the clergy etc seem to look on unconcerned as these insults and personal attacks continue. President Mills has spoken out against it, but yet these attacks from his appointees and NDC activists continue. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time to take a stand. We urge President Mills to call his appointees and party activists to order. We urge the clergy, civil society to speak out clearly against this culture and strategy of personal attacks and insults. Ladies and Gentlemen, if this culture of insults and personal attacks are not stopped then we the young patriots of the NPP would henceforth take a stand. We would stand up against this campaign. Every insult, personal attacks, fabrication, lies, smear campaign against our leaders shall be met with an equal and opposite insults, personal attacks, fabrication, lies and smear campaign against NDC leaders. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a clarion call to all of us. It is a wakeup call. We do not want this situation. We do not want this culture of insults. We deeply regret that it is persisting. We have no option but to take this stance against it. We are guided in this stance that it is the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered, that makes evil to triumph. God bless Ghana. Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press. Coordinators: John Kumah Yaw Adomako Baafi Hopeson Adorye Asamoah Gyamfi Richard Nyamaa Michael Ampong
