Fake Doctor Arrested

LUCK ELUDED Gabriel Duah, a self-styled medical doctor, when he started to practise his profession at the government hospital in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western Region last Tuesday. The 26-year-old Kusasi farm labourer, when interviewed by DAILY GUIDE, said he could not fathom what drove him to pretend to be a medical officer. DAILY GUIDE investigations indicated that Duah used to visit a medical assistant called Roger at the Sefwi Wiawso hospital, after introducing himself as medical assistant at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. On Friday, 19th July 2011, Duah came to the hospital in a doctors overall and went to the Out Patients Department where he gave a health talk on malaria and its prevention. The fake doctor, who could hardly speak or write English, quickly moved into a doctors consulting room and started seeing patients. Duah, when interviewed, said he used to be a farm labourer at Nsawora near Sefwi-Wiawso. He said he was unlucky when a few question put to him by a hospital administrator exposed him. The Sefwi Wiawso District Director of Health Services, who was alerted, instructed that the fake doctor be handed over to the police where he admitted that he had no knowledge in medicine. Duah was put before the Bibiani Circuit Court presided over by His Lordship Emmanuel Ankamah who remanded him in police custody to reappear on 3rd August 2011. I am not a doctor, but I like the job and wish I were one. But at least I know a bit about malaria and its causes, so I gave a bit of health talk to the out-patients to complement the work of the doctor in the hospital, he said. Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE has been hinted by the Sefwi Wiawso District Police Commander, DSP Raymond Erzuah that a young has been parading at Nsawora and its environs as a doctor, carrying a stethoscope and administering drugs to unsuspecting patients. The police are investigating the case and would soon call people who have received treatment and drugs from the said doctor to be on the alert.
