Judicial corruption - CJA Prepares To Reveal More

The Committee for Joint Action (CJA) is busily studying documents including responses of the Judicial Service to an audit report and is threatening to reveal more on corruption in the service. Sources close to the Committee told The Insight newspaper that the documents have been circulated amongst its members for study. It is expected that by mid-week members of the CJA will finalize their position on new disclosures about corruption in the Judicial Service. Already the CJA has scheduled a press conference for Tuesday, August 2, 2011 to make new disclosures in cases of corruption in the Judicial Service. Last week the CJA revealed several cases of corruption and maladministration in the service including the failure of officers to account for huge amounts of money released to them as imprest. Other disclosures included payments to ghosts for doubtful jobs, missing payment vouchers, misapplication of funds, non-payment of taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and failure to keep financial records. In one instance, although officials of the judicial Service claimed that between 2008 and 2009, they had paid for various goods and services to the tune of GH 3,032,429.51, they could not produce vouchers to show that those expenditures had been incurred on goods and services meant for the Judiciary.
