Stephen Appiah Sets Permanent Retirement Date

Ghana legend Stephen Appiah says he will retire permanently for football in two years to concentrate on coaching. The former Black Stars captain retired from the Black Stars last year to concentrate on his club career with Italian side Cesena. This comes after he played for Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Juventus, Bologna and Cesena in Italy as well as Fernabahce in Turkey. Appiah is now chasing a lucrative contract in the Gulf and told the Oti Adjei Report that he has set his permanent retirement date. It will be soon. Maybe in the next year or two, he said. I started thinking at that point that there are a lot of young players who are coming, they are good and doing well with the courage, skill, technique and confidence. It gets to a point where you have to give others the chance. Appiah admits that he will dearly miss playing at the highest level given the camaraderie in the teams he has played for. Its the whole package. Being in camp, cracking jokes with your mates, the travelling up and down, going to the games; its a different feeling. Most players when they retire cry because they will not enjoy that group they are used to. Saying good bye to the sport I think is always sad.
