Ghanaian Coach Ibrahim Tanko Set To Make History In Germany

Ghanaian Ibrahim Tanko will become the first African coach to sit on the bench of a German top flight side when the Bundesliga begins this weekend. Tanko, an ex-Ghana international, will be second in command on the FC Cologne technical bench when they kick-start their campaign against Wolfsburg on Saturday. The 33-year-old knows the German terrain after playing 14 years with top flight sides Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg. He will work under new coach Stale Solbakken after impressing working as a scout for Cologne in Africa during the CHAN tournament. Tanko was deputy coach of Japanese top-flight side Urawa Red Diamonds before he quit the post at the end of last season. He won the Uefa Champions League in 1997 with Dortmund.
