Konadu Rawlings Storms Kumasi

FORMER FIRST Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings will visit the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, today to address National Democratic Congress members. Details about the trip are sketchy but political pundits believe that the former First Ladys visit would go a long way to determine whether the Rawlingses would indeed form another party for the next polls or not. Meanwhile, a source close to Nana Konadus camp has told Daily Guide that the president of the 31st December Womens Movement was making the trip ostensibly to thank her party people for their support during the congress. He disclosed that he was very close to the Rawlingses and he was sure Nana Konadu would not form a new political party, stressing the visit was for her to thank the NDC supporters for their support during the congress. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source hinted that former President Rawlings would make the trip, noting that all NDC members from the 39 constituencies in the region would attend the programme. Nana Konadu contested the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate slot for the next general elections but lost to President Atta Mills during the congress last month in Sunyani. Since then, there have been rumours that the Rawlingses would form a new political party, with Nana Konadu as flagbearer to contest the next elections. It is believed that whatever she says on the day would either confirm or put to eternal rest, speculations that the Rawlingses are coming out with a new political party. Nana Konadu, whilst in Kumasi, would meet NDC delegates and her fans at the Prempeh Assembly Hall at 9 am, a source hinted. She will travel to Sunyani after the Kumasi meeting, after which she will return to Accra to attend the funeral of Teye Nyaunus sister in his constituency. So far, different sources have been speculating about the actual purpose of the former First Ladys visit whose team will include her children and close aides. The uncertainty about the exact purpose of her trip is said to have generated immense pressure and tension among NDC faithful in the Garden City. These NDC insiders have been gripped with fear basically because they are afraid of the worst for the party if indeed Nana Konadu goes ahead and announces the formation of a new political party.
