Lies Will Kill NDC - Nana Konadu Rawlings

FORMER FIRST Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) faces a possible demise anytime soon if the tale of lies which has now become the order of the day in the political grouping does not cease. Nana Konadu, wife of NDC founder Jerry John Rawlings, said that some leading members of the party, especially those with unflinching support for President Atta Mills, concocted lies against the Rawlingses prior to the partys congress in Sunyani last month. The former First Lady, who was accompanied by two of her daughters, said with the level of deterioration in the country, it was only divine intervention that could save the situation. Nana Konadu, who lost the NDC flagbearership race to President Mills, said that almost one month after the congress, the same people from the Mills camp are still peddling falsehoods against her family, without provocation. She particularly mentioned a recent case which alleged that the Rawlingses, after the congress, sent away a delegation sent by President Mills to bring the former First Family back to the party. Nana Konadu said that story was one of the falsehoods being peddled by the presidency to discredit Mr. Rawlings. She therefore urged NDC members and Ghanaians in general not to believe such falsehoods from the Mills camp. She also described as untrue allegations that she refused to heed the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu IIs order that she should stop contesting President Mills at the NDC congress. The former First Lady was addressing a large gathering of NDC followers in the Ashanti region at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi yesterday to officially start her nationwide thank you tour. Still on the lies in the NDC, Nana Konadu said allegations that she contested President Mills for the NDC flagbearership because her demand for five ministerial positions for her supporters was turned down was also false. Before the congress, some lies were told and are still being told. Some say I asked for five ministerial appointments in addition to money before I would step down from the contest. That is not true; if you hear all these claims please ignore them, she charged. The former Vice Chairperson of the NDC said the party was formed on tenets of truthfulness, honesty, transparency and accountability, fearing that if the lies were allowed to continue, the NDC might deteriorate. Nana Konadu said she still stood by her beliefs that influenced her decision to contest President Mills for the NDC flagbearership. The president of the 31st December Womens Movement said her electoral loss in Sunyani had not dimmed her hopes and aspirations of striving for better reforms to take place in the NDC, notably among the grassroots. She said it was her wish to win the presidential position in the NDC so that she would be in a position to personally put a stop to the incessant hardships and agony confronting the NDC foot-soldiers across the country. I still stand by the principles that motivated me to contest for the NDC flagbearership although I did not win. I have not given up on that, truth and justice, job for the grassroots, job for the organizers, job for the leaders, job for the executives; I still stand for these values and convictions. I will continue to fight for truth to ensure that the NDC is stronger and becomes the best, she explained.
